Zora and the HibernautsZora and the Hibernauts / written and illustrated by Fernando Fernandez. -- New York : Catalan Communications, 1984. -- Translation from Spanish of Zora y los Hibernautas. -- The album includes an eight page biographical sketch of Fernández written by Marcel Miralles. -- Serialized in Heavy Metal in 1982-1983. -- 110 p. : col. ill. ; 29 cm. -- Call no.: PN6777.F4Z6 1984Summary: The story opens on the Moon, where Zora and a patrol are doing a routine check for alien presence. This time they find a generator running, and cells of hibernating alien life forms. They take the coffin-like capsules back to Honeycomb with them, all but two, which Zora for some reason decides to open on the spot. Two men emerge, astronauts from a bygone age named Amon and Bronco. Zora and her patrol have never seen men before, as Honeycomb, their artificial satellite environment, is peopled entirely by women whose history is carefully censored. Back on Honeycomb, the queen takes charge of the hibernauts still sleeping, and gives Zora the job of showing Amon and Bronco around. Soon they are involved in politics, a rebellion is afoot, and Zora, Amon and Bronco must escape. They find the rest of Amon's crew awakened, but mindwiped. After a difficult crash landing on Earth, where radiation has made normal life impossible, they find Rob, the last human on the planet, who is alive and immortal because of a mutation. Amon and Zora discover sex. They fight off giant ants, and a mutant cult that wants to sacrifice them to their god. The "god" is recognizable as an ancient interstellar ship, still operable, and they fly toward Honeycomb, now in the midst of a civil war. As the queen is about to be killed, she pushes a self-destruct button. Only Zora and Amon make it back to the big ship, and Amon is critically wounded, unconscious. Zora is pregnant, and watchers from the future tell her she'd better take off because her child is the only hope for the survival of the human race. Zorro in Old CaliforniaZorro in Old California / by Nedaud [i.e., Nadaud] and Marcello ; English translation by Claude Elk and Frank P. Marino. -- Guerneville, Calif.: Eclipse Books, 1986. -- 61 p. : col. ill. ; 28 cm. -- (Eclipse Graphic Album Series) -- Stories originally published in French in Le Journal de Mickey. -- Call no.: PN6747.N4Z6 1986"Wanted!" 10 p. -- Summary: Capitan Monastario offers a reward of 100 pesos for Zorro, dead or alive. Zorro appears while the posters are being hung, and leads Sergeant Garcia on a chase through a church, with swordplay in the bell tower and the graveyard. Zorro then arranges a trap for the Captain, on top of a slippery rock by a waterfall. He succeeds in getting Garcia to pay a ransom, and since Garcia tries to double-cross him, Zorro lets the Captain walk back to town. "The Assassins" 10 p. -- Summary: Zorro is ambushed by men calling themselves revolutionaries trying to throw out the king and establish a republic. Zorro refuses to join them, so they lock him up while they plan to assassinate the Governor and loot the town. Zorro overhears, realizes they are "just criminals," and escapes in time to save the Governor. The Governor is grateful, and offers Zorro a job, but Zorro also refuses to join him. "Double Agent" 10 p. -- Summary: Captain Monastario arrests a man named Lopez and burns his house, on suspicion. His sister says she'll make him pay for it. That evening Antonia Lopez tries to kill Monastario, and is captured instead. Zorro frees her, but she next tries to kill him because Monastario has promised her the freedom of her brother. Monastario views what he is told is Zorro's body lying in a ravine, then gives Antonia 100 pesos, but refuses to free her brother. Monastario releases all the other prisoners except the Lopez siblings, and is soon popular with the people. With Zorro's help, the brother and sister also escape and leave California in a small sailboat. "The Scarecrow" 10 p. -- Summary: An Indian farmer's scarecrow is fashioned to look like Captain Monastario, and the Captain flies into a rage and prepares to whip him. Zorro steps in and frees the man. Commandante Sanchez, a special envoy from the Governor, witnesses the incompetent pursuit of Zorro by the soldiers. Visiting the Captain, the Commandante says the Governor has sent him to collect the taxes that haven't been paid. The Captain has the money, so Commandante Sanchez says he plans to take it to the Governor in the morning. That night, Captain Monastario frees a prisoner, named El Lobo, on the condition that he masquerade as Zorro and steal the money. El Lobo is successful, but Monastario has planned to capture him. The only way for El Lobo to escape is to cross Los Indios Bridge, a rickety construction of ropes and uneven planks. Zorro confronts him on the bridge, but Monastario kills El Lobo with a gunshot. Zorro now has the money, so two soldiers go out on the bridge to get him. Zorro cuts the ropes, and the soldiers and the money all fall into the river. "Tight as a Noose" 10 p. -- Summary: Captain Monastario announces a toll of ten pesos to cross a bridge, and Zorro interferes with its collection. The city fathers meet to discuss this new outrage, and Monastario breaks up the meeting by arresting Don Alejandro (Zorro's father) for "endangering the security of the State." A gallows is set up to execute Don Alejandro, so Zorro and Bernardo have to act quickly. They spring Don Alejandro from the jail, then capture Captain Monastario and let him spend the night tied up, standing on the gallows with his head in the noose. The townspeople get a good laugh in the morning. "The Winds of Rebellion" 9 p. -- Summary: Sergeant Garcia puts up posters announcing a new tax, on the authority of Captain Monastario. Don Alejandro asks his son Diego to go with him and the City Council to confront the Captain, but Diego says he has thought of a new melody he must stay and play on his guitar. The confrontation happens on the street, and Monastario refuses to listen to the Council members. Zorro is watching from a rooftop, and when a fish hits the Captain in the face, Zorro snatches the Captain's gun with his bullwhip. Next a tomato hits Sergeant Garcia, and the chase is on. Zorro gets away handily, and the Captain ends up stuck full of cactus needles. Returning home, Don Alejandro finds his son still playing his guitar, and wishes Diego could be more like Zorro.
