and get revenge on Superman. He is hoping to find something
at the site of a UFO landing, but loses his footing and is

normally invisible. Nyxly repays the alien by knocking him
out and taking his ship. The first encounter goes badly for
Superman, who leaves and shows up catatonic in the WGBS
Building. The alien arrives and begins treatment for a
brain short circuit. Nyxly raises havok and Jimmy gets an
idea from the alien's comment that Superman would be in a

Summary: In Central America, in Belize, archaeologist Sir Walter Howard searches for clues to the origins of Mayan civilization. He discovers a stone with Egyptian hieroglyphics, then is overcome by some kind of madness and just has time to write a letter about it to his daughter. He has also sent coded radio messages to another archaeologist in Mexico, Juan Carrillo. Carrillo says the Mormons will be excited about the discovery, and tells a mysterious visitor about it. The visitor turns out to be Sergei Orloff, Martin Mystery's arch-enemy. Carrillo is soon found dead of a heart attack. Howard's daughter Beverly attends a slide show in New York, where Professor Mystery is talking about the Nazca Lines in Peru, the Pyramids of Giza, the Moai statues of Easter Island, and the tales of Loch Ness. She asks to speak with Martin, and Diana, the "eternal fiancée," puts aside jealousy to allow the conversation. Martin refuses to mount an immediate expedition to rescue Professor Howard, so Beverly leaves in a huff and has her purse snatched by one of Orloff's men. This changes Martin's mind, and off they go to Belize. Soon, in the jungle, they find the stone and then a cave full of hieroglyphics. The cave is guarded by a mysterious custodian, who seems somewhat friendly to them. Orloff and his men arrive soon after. The central artifact of the cave is a map of the Earth in the form of a globe, which proves that both the Mayans and the Egyptians knew that the Earth was round 35 centuries ago. The Pharaoh's curse, which seems to be a hallucinogenic gas that works by skin contact, begins to take effect, and the custodian helps them escape while the cave collapses burying all the artifacts and the custodian himself forever. At the last moment the custodian reveals himself to be Professor Howard, who now believes himself to be an ancient Egyptian.

Summary: Ahmet Abdol grows up in a suburb of Cairo, beset by bullies but always talking about becoming a powerful ruler. He is obsessed with a genealogical connection between himself and the ancient Pharaohs of Egypt. He marries Filene, his childhood sweetheart, and becomes a professor at the American University in Cairo. His research reveals that the ancient Pharaohs were actually mutants with superpowers, and for reporting this he is attacked in the name of Allah as a blasphemer. Fleeing from a mob in his car, he gets in a wreck. Filene is killed, but he saves their daughter, Salome. In anger he blasts the crowd of onlookers with some kind of force from his bare hand, and thus reveals himself to an ancient cult that has been waiting for the return of a "living god." Abdol sends his daughter to boarding school, and becomes a supervillain defeated and imprisoned by the X-Men. His cult helps him break out of prison, and when two of them have to be left behind he reveals that they all wear "electrocution bands" that he can activate at any time to prevent them from being questioned by the police. Meanwhile in Manhattan, a young woman named Fayah Sahid seeks sanctuary in the Baxter Building. Members of the Living Pharaoh's cult try to stop her, but the Human Torch melts their guns and sends them away. Fayah has a warning for the world about the plans of the "forbidden Arab messiah," which she delivers to the Fantastic Four. In Egypt, Ahmet Abdol's high technology underground installation is shown, rivaling "anything that Washington or Moscow could possibly manufacture." With a speech to his mignons, he launches his attack on America. From the Baxter Building, She Hulk sees the attack coming. Fayah Sahid proves to have been planted in the building to enable the attack. The attackers create a pyramid of force that transports Reed, Sue and Johnny to Egypt, where the Living Pharaoh tells his men to kill them, then puts them in sarcofagi to siphon off their cosmic energy for his own use. Fayah (who is actually Abdol's daughter Salome) is left alone with the She Hulk and cannot escape, and he must decide whether to activate her electrocution band. Which he does. This makes him angry, so he decides to attack New York. She Hulk calls the Avengers for help, and only Captain America is at hand. Captain America recruits Peter Parker, who figures out the pyramid technology from fragments in Salome's purse. An unscheduled Concorde lands at LaGuardia airport with Ahmet Abdol aboard, now calling himself the Living Monolith. Sixty feet tall and still growing, Abdol trashes his way into Manhattan while the three superheroes try to stop him. Spider-Man uses the pyramid transporter to take himself to Egypt, while The Living Monolith sees a school and starts agonizing about his personal tragedy. The military shoots a rocket at him, which enrages him again and he destroys a World Trade Center tower in passing (this is the cover scene). An electrical power surge arranged by Captain America and the She Hulk brings the giant down, and Spider-Man returns with the rescued Fantastic Four members. The Living Monolith is not dead however. Though unable to move, he is still growing, and he knocks down another building by looking at it. Because he's gaining mass rapidly the heroes are afraid he might sink Manhattan. The Avengers arrive (Thor, Iron Man, Wonder Man, Starfox and Hawkeye). Thor is asked to try to lift him by throwing his hammer, but it doesn't work. The Monolith's army arrives, but in seeing the civilians struggle alongside the superheroes against his men the Monolith has a change of heart. Thor tries again, and this time the Living Monolith jumps, and the combined force is enough to break the pull of gravity. He takes up orbit around a distant star, sprouts vegetation, and becomes "The Living Planet."
