ButterscotchButterscotch : The Flavor of the Invisible / Milo Manara ; translated from the French by Tom Leighton ; edited by Bernd Metz. -- New York : Catalan Communications, 1987. -- 68 p. : ill. ; 28 cm. -- Translation of: Le Parfum de l'Invisible; original title: Il Profumo dell'Invisible. -- "Adults only". -- Call no.: PN6767.M36P3212 1987Summary: Honey is secretary to Beatrice D'Altavilla, a prima ballerina with a nasty temper. A childhood admirer of the ballerina, now a professor, invents a smelly lotion that makes him invisible, and the scent is butterscotch. Honey finds him naked in Beatrice's hotel room making himself invisible, with some vague idea of being close to her and that Beatrice might love him. Honey thinks she must be dreaming at first, but the professor has a constant erection that she keeps bumping into. Honey takes the professor to the gym where Beatrice is working out, to see the object of his fascination, and Beatrice behaves badly. For her trouble, Honey gets poked in the rear with a pin by Beatrice. Honey thinks this will have cured the professor, but it turns out he was too embarrased, even while invisible, to follow Honey into the gym. Honey tries to do something about his erection, but he gets offended and hits her. She tells him to disappear, and leaves for dinner at a Prince's villa. The professor follows her, and she sprays his face with bronze paint, trying to expose him. The professor runs to the attic and hides among sculptures and paintings done by the prince's son. The son was formerly an artist, but now because of drug problems is catatonic and being kept a secret by his father. Honey goes back to the hotel dining room to eat, and the invisible professor joins her, having washed the paint off his face. Unexpectedly, Beatrice and her entourage join them in the dining room just as the professor loses his virginity. The professor is still fixated on Beatrice, and the next morning he shows Honey a snapshot of Beatrice and himself as children. In the picture, she has a paper wolf that he made for her, and on the back he had written: "This little wolf, you must return, if one day my love, you ever spurn." With this to work with, Honey takes the professor and the photo to Beatrice, who says she burned the thing right away. She then feels the professor's tears on her shoulder, proclaims that it is raining, and makes her entourage run into the hotel. The professor goes the beach and acts up, cutting women's bathing suit straps and the like. Honey catches him and they hide in the attic with the silent former artist. Honey and the professor perform sexually in the attic for a time not specified but probably for a few weeks, and are eventually caught by Beatrice and the Prince in the act. Honey gets fired from her job, goes back to the hotel to pack, and is soon being chased by the invisible man again. This time Beatrice's men catch him, and beat him bloody, perhaps killing him. We discover later that this invisible man was not the professor, but rather the supposedly catatonic artist. That night there's a live ballet broadcast from a seaside pavillion, and Beatrice is the star. As usual before a show, she blindfolds herself and has one of her men excite her almost to orgasm behind the curtain. This time the professor clonks her man, raises the curtain, and promotes her ecstasy himself on the satellite hookup. The audience, and families all over Italy, react strongly, and the police come and take her away. A storm destroys the theater, blowing it out to sea, and Honey and the professor end up floating together in a big styrofoam mouth. Butterscotch 2Butterscotch 2 / Milo Manara ; translation by Robert Legault ; lettering by Sharon Lewis. -- New York : Nantier Beall Minoustchine, 1996. -- 46 p. : col. ill. ; 28 cm. -- (Eurotica) -- "For adults only". -- Call no.: PN6767.M36B82 1996Summary: A woman in a red hat ties the professor up and tries to get the formula for invisibility. Results are mixed: he gives her a bath and convinces her she's invisible, and she walks around naked for over four pages before realizing people can see her. She is kidnapped by bank robbers, and the professor feels sorry for her and rescues her, using the real invisibility formula. One of the robbers catches on and follows the professor, steals the ointment and starts a crime spree as 'The Invisible Man.' He announces that he's going to kill an African head of state at the airport, and the woman in the hat finds him and stops him. She had assumed 'The Invisible Man' was the professor, but realizes what has happened when she washes the man's face. She frees the professor, and he smashes his work and runs away. The woman in the hat becomes a go-go dancer, and with ointment from the criminal's stash has been able to make herself wealthy. The professor disapproves. The robbers find her at her new job, paint her invisible, and put a bomb in her with only the fuse sticking out. They handcuff her under a table full of ambassadors, and light the fuse. The bomb doesn't go off because the professor painted himself invisible and followed them, pulling out the fuse. At the end the professor and the woman with the hat decide to become friends.
