Since the middle of the nineteenth century, the detective-mystery
story has been one of the mainstays of popular fiction. There
are approximately 4,000 paperback and hardcover novels in this
category, with important twentieth-century writers well
represented. The collection has a complete set of the London
Mystery Magazine (1949-1973), a run of Ellery Queen's Mystery
Magazine (1941-), The Armchair Detective, a fan magazine
which presents essays and book reviews, and representative
samples of other mystery and fan magazines from as early as the
1930's. The collection includes spy fiction.
