Because the Map Library is a reference collection, the materials do not circulate. Every effort is made to accommodate the needs of patrons within the Map Library. Large tables are available to facilitate map use; quiet group discussion is permitted.
The Map Library is a NO FOOD, NO DRINK area. This rule is strictly enforced.
Copy Machines
Duplicating, reducing and enlarging capabilities up to 11" x 17" are available for $.10 per sheet. The machine takes dollar bills or coins. Color copying is available at the Copy Center on 2-West, ask Map staff before you remove something from the Map Library.
Computer Access
Computers in the Map Library are available for map related needs.
The Map Library has two "Full Set of Application" computers for patron use, specially loaded with ArcGIS software. The full set of applications
computer requires an MSU netID. Also among their programs (like all Full Set of Applications computers) it has ArcView 3.2. For
a full list of computer applications, see the
full list. These computers are intended for map-related needs including
using GIS software, finding maps or GIS datasets on the Internet, using
the Map Library CD-ROM products, or other related activities.
One other computer is a "Selected Resources" computer which does not require a MSU login or password, but is restricted to MSU library resources, including Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps of Michigan.
Scanner
The Map Library has a 11" x 17" color scanner on a staff computer. Staff mediation is required for using this computer. Your scans can be burned to a CD, a USB drive, saved to a ZIP drive, or sent via FTP or email.
