  Introduction

The MSU Library has an extensive collection of Africana archival materials in microformat. All or most of these materials are now listed on MAGIC (MSU's online public access catalog).  This guide replaces a 1982 edition and lists both holdings and finding aids.

The basic arrangement is by country in which the archive is located, with African countries being listed first.  Within each country, listing is by archive and then usually by title or main entry.  In the case of the Malian Arabic Manuscript Microfilming Project, which includes archives from France, Mali, Morocco and Senegal, the listing is under Mali.

The format for individual entries is as follows:

Author, if any (with corporate authors in bold).  Title: Subtitle (in italics).  (Place: Publisher, Date of filming [if available])  No. of reels or fiche  (Series or other number [if any])  Notes on contents [but not guides])  MSU film or fiche no.

Notes on guides or indexes appear in an indented paragraph after the country or archive or individual record.  All microforms are in the Microforms Library (2 West).  Guides listed without location are in Main; others are in Africana (Afr) on 2-East or Microform Guides (Mic) on 2-West).
