Reference Resources

Dictionary/Thesaurus (Merriam-Webster online)

Encyclopedia (World Book online)

World Almanac (1996) - covers arts and entertainment, U.S cities and states, people in the news, nations of the world, sports, the environment, vital statistics, science and technology, computers, taxes and much more.

Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature (1983 - ) - online access to popular periodicals published in the U.S. and Canada. (older print issues back to the 1800's are located in the Main Library on 1 East - Reference)

World Fact Book (2001) - prepared by the CIA, it provides information from the National Science Foundation, Census bureau, the departments of Commerce, Labor, Defense, and the Interior. Country Profiles include geography, people, governments, economy, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues.

Sports Resources - (not all resources are full-text) covers Kinesiology, sports medicine, physical therapy, physical education, exercise science, recreation, leisure management, health, dance, sports history and sports in general.

Full-Text Online Databases

General Databases

WilsonSelect; General Reference Center Gold , ProQuest (coverage dates vary)

These databases offer general full-text and full-image journal and newspaper articles, book reviews, government documents, etc. for scholarly/academic and popular material covering the sciences, humanities, education, business, health, current events, arts and entertainment and other subject areas.

Subject Specific Databases

ABI Inform (1971 - )

Provides citations with abstracts and full-text articles from 1988 to the present in over 1,400 domestic and international periodicals. Covering various areas of business and management, including information on market trends, corporate strategies and product information.

JSTOR (coverage dates vary)

Searchable database of full-text journals in anthropology, Asian studies, ecology, economics, education, finance, history, literature, mathematics, philosophy, political science, population studies and sociology. Most recent articles will be 4-5 years old.

LEXIS-NEXIS (coverage dates vary)

This is an excellent database for Business, Law and Government. An interdiscplinary database that is international in scope. The LEXIS service contains major archives of federal and state case law, state and federal regulations and public records from major U.S. states. The NEXIS service is a leading news and business information service which contains more than 7,100 sources, of which 3,700 provide their entire publications online.

Project Muse (coverage dates vary)

Contains the full-text of over 40 scholarly/academic journals covering History, Literature and Philosophy.

Health Reference Center Academic (1994 - )

Full-text database of nursing and allied health journals which also includes a wealth of personal health information sources.

GPO Access (coverage dates vary)

Electronic access to important information products produced by the Federal Government.
