Using the MSU Library Catalog (MAGIC)
To Find Information About Sports

The easiest way to identify the books and journals in the MSU Libraries is to search MAGIC, the Libraries' online catalog. MAGIC can be searched in a variety of ways. If you know the author of a book, or a title of a book or journal, that may be the easiest way to find the call number and location of a known item.

  • Try an author search. Click on the author button and type ashe, arthur

  • Try a title search. Click on the title button and type encyclopedia of sports science

If you don't know what is available, most people take the easiest route and search by key word or key word combinations. As you identify materials in this fashion, take note of the subject headings.

  • Try a key word search. Click on the words button and type sports and science

If you take the time to use the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) attached to many records, you can often find additional materials on the same topics that may not contain the key words you tried previously.

  • Try a LC subject search. Click on the LC subject button and type sports or sports--periodicals
