Johnson's Glo-Coat
Advertisement for S.C. Johnson & Son’s Glo-Coat, a product used to finish floors, features the comic strip “Mrs. Whitman’s Dilemma: For Once She Takes a Man’s Advice.” In the first panel “Mrs. Whitman” is distressed at how “dingy” her kitchen floor looks. The second panel has her visiting her husband (dressed in a three-piece suit) at his office where she remarks to him how nice the highly-trafficked floor looks. In the third panel she consults with the office building’s superintendent (also dressed in a three piece suit) who recommends Glo-Coat. The final panel has “Mrs. Whitman” admiring her shining floor that has been treated with Glo-Coat. The ad also includes images of a container of Glo-Coat and a woman pouring Glo-Coat on a floor prior to mopping it.
