"The colors," a famous full-page illustration by John T. McCutcheon, commemorates the sacrifices of soldiers in four cells. Pictured is a gold and green field in times of peace, a red field of dead bodies in times of war, a field of mourners wearing black after war, and a field of white gravestones. This paritcular illustration was reprinted by request.
