Two Soviet-built Polikarpov I-16 low-wing fighter planes in Nationalist Chinese markings sit on the grass at Hankow airport in June 1938. Ground crew stand by the engine of the closest aircraft. These aircraft were flown by Soviet "volunteer" pilots.
