Pagan customs revived for Nazi weddings : Nazi bigwig Hermann Goering, with his bride

After his April 10, 1935, wedding ceremony Nazi political leader and commander of the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) Hermann Goering and his bride, actress Emmy Sonnemann, stand at the top of the steps to the Berlin Protestant Cathedral (Berliner Dom. The groom wears a Luftwaffe general’s full dress uniform with a wide sash and an aiguillette over his right shoulder. The bride wears a billowy wedding dress with puffed sleeves. She carries a bouquet of pink and yellow roses. Her train is carried by two uniformed Hitler Youth (Hitlerjugend) boys. To Goering’s left stands an unidentified cleric and Reich Bishop Ludwig Mueller who presided over the ceremony. Behind the clerics are uniformed people and a line of swastika flags. Behind the couple, civilian and uniformed guests stand near the entrance. Most, including the bride, give the Nazi salute. Goering presents a standard military salute.
