Crown Rayon (American Viscose Corporation)

Advertisement for Crown Rayon fabrics, produced by the American Viscose Corporation includes several photographs in which journalist Margaret Case Harriman witnesses three tests of Crown Rayon fabric done at the Better Fabrics Testing Bureau of the National Retail Dry Goods Association. In the first photograph a man in a lab coat uses a microscope to check the fabric’s weave. Next to the microscope, there are two large round glass containers containing smaller glass jars. In the second photograph, the man dips fabric into a jar. Ms. Harriman looks at a large case containing other jars. The bottom of the case’s lid mounts a mirror. The final photograph shows a machine that records the stress put on the fabric that the man is holding. Ms. Harriman looks at the machine’s graphing mechanism. Ms. Harriman wears a skirt, blouse, ascot, and large checked coat.
