Capt. Ernst Roehm

German Nazi party leader Adolf Hitler confers with two of his closest associates, Ernst Roehm and Hermann Goering. Hitler, hatless, wears a leather coat. The other two are in civilian suits and broad rimmed hats. Roehm was killed by Hitler and Goering’s henchmen in June 1934 because Roehm’s paramilitary brown shirts (the SA) were becoming a threat to not only Hitler’s control of the party but also to the German armed forces. The official reason for this “Night of the Long Knives” was that Roehm and his SA cronies were corrupt, extravagant homosexuals
