Parade leaving the imperial gate

A parade leaves the imperial gate of the seraglio, or royal palace, at Constantinople. The following people are labeled by numbers in the photo: pasha on horseback, officer of the janizaries (janissaries), a halberder (halberdier) or harem servant, two other varieties of halberdiers, janissaries, kapici or guard, chief black eunuch, sword bearer, sultan and his kapici, and the grand vizier.
