Lifebuoy soap

This advertisement for Lever Brothers’ Lifebuoy Health Soap includes a short comic strip “One Sad Experience Was Enough…I’d Rather Be Safe than Take the Risk Says Fastidious Young Helen Johnson of Milwaukee.” At the top of the strip is a head shot of Miss Johnson. In the first panel, Miss Johnson is filling a bathtub. The caption says that the choice of bath soap is essential in hot weather. The second panel shows Miss Johnson wearing a two-piece bathing suit at a beach. Behind her another woman frolics with two men. The caption states that on one occasion “ordinary soaps” did not protect her from body odor. The final panel has Miss Johnson in an evening gown surrounded by admiring men, one of whom wears a tuxedo. Finally, there is a drawing of a box of Lifebuoy Soap.
