The Janet A. Ginsburg Chicago Tribune Collection

Hard times for the pessimist

Four panels (back in 1922, 1923 and '24, 1925 and '26, and 1927) depicts a miner (business) pulling gold (prosperity) out of the ground (U.S. Industrial Gold Field) while another man (pesimist) watches him work. Each year the pessimist insists that the prosperity cannot last, and the miner continues to pull more and more gold from the ground.
