Getting tired of his role

This cartoon illustrates disputes between the Eastern and Western wings of the Republican party. In the middle of a circus ring, a patch-worn two-person elephant costume comes undone. A man in the rear half, labeled "Western Republicans," suggests, "Say, wait a minute! Let's trade places for awhile!" while holding onto the coat tails marked "Eastern Republicans" of a man in the front half of the costume marked "Republican Party Leadership."
