Sketches of the news

Five scenes from the news depict a variety of topics. The first image, "Birdie! Birdie! Birdie!" depicts a scene in Chicago where a man in a suit and top hat feeds coins to a flock of bird airplanes (commercial aviation). The second image, "First One In," shows Illinois Attorney General Oscar Carlstrom diving off a diving board and into the "1928 Gubernatorial Pool," while Governor Len Small checks the water temperature with his finger. A third image, "An Unhealthy Condition" shows a garbage can (Divorce and Alimony Scandals). The fourth image, "That Morning After Feelin'!" shows a hung-over Anti-Saloon League President Wayne Wheeler sitting on a bed and a block of ice is tied to his head. In the foreground, are two open bottles (Anti-Saloon Exposures). A fifth image, "It Grows as Fast as He Can Cut It" depicts an anthropomorphic world operating a push mower (peace efforts) over a lawn of bayonets (militarism), while a Roman general (Mars) waters the lawn.
