Sketches of the news

Five scenes from the news depict a variety of topics. Calvin Coolidge is depicted as a Native American chief (Big Chief Coolidge) smoking from a pipe, he wears a headdress with two feathers (1923 and 1924). The G.O.P. elephant points to a rooster (Dem. rooster) with a long feather (1928) and asks Coolidge if he should get another feather for him. Another image shows a dynamite stick (business boom) next to a box of matches (confidence). A third image depicts a car driver speeding (breaking another record), in the back seat, the Grim Reaper (1927 death rate) yells to go faster. A fourth image, "the bulldowgging contest at Geneva," depicts a man (naval disarmament parley) holding on to a longhorn bull (John Bull's naval superiority). A fifth image depitcs a man in a suit and tophat (European debtor nation) sitting atop a flag pole ($ Unpaid Debts), below a crowd looks at him and comments "He hasn't moved in 9 years."
