The fight at the switch
In this cartoon by Carey Orr a fight breaks out between a bond-holder, politicians, and traction magnates near a set of railroad tracks, "end of old franchise." In the background a train car, "Chicago surface lines," disappears around a corner while a man dressed in Orr's usual depiction of Father Dearborn, a representation of Chicago, looks worriedly out the back window. Various track lines are labeled, "interminable franchise," "municipal ownership," "new 20 years franchise," "Lisman Plan," and "receivership."
