The Janet A. Ginsburg Chicago Tribune Collection

Maybe something's missing

Cartoon by Carey Orr depicts a statesman standing in a car, "Europe--wrecked by the war," with boxes in the back seat, "foreign trade" and "business" on a bridge near a railroad crossing, "World War 1914-1918." On the other side of the railroad tracks is a sign labeled "to prosperity." In the water below the bridge is the "financial gas tank," where an opening, "unpaid debts," is causing a spill, "loss of credit."
