Pink Ties, sometimes called by their brand name Tie Grips are now available from the library stockroom, or you may just send an e-mail request to the Library Stockperson at stock@mail.lib.msu.edu when you run out. Sizes in stock include 16 inch, 24 inch, 36 inch, and 48 inch. At this point you may be asking yourself what for? To what end? Why do I want these things? Pink ties are a sound, preservation replacement for rubber bands. Rubber bands used to hold together library materials can be damaging because: Rubber bands if too tight can deform the item, such as bending softcover books and deforming hard cover books by bending the fore edge of the case. Rubber bands can dry up and stick to the library materials, leaving a nasty residue that doesn’t come off and leaves a stain on the materials. Rubber bands can break, especially when old thus losing their efficiency all together and not keeping together what you had intended. This product is cloth tape, non staining, an improvement over the old cloth tape. The other improvement to the Pink Tie is that you never have to tie it. The rubber grommet can just be pushed up from one tie end to the loop for the desired snugness. Pink ties can be used whenever you need to hold together library materials. When extra security is required use two one going up and down, the other across. Reuse your ties just as you would rubber bands. |
