Room Layout

This page will give you an overview of the different workstations in the Assistive Technology Center, the software installed on each machine and the location of other useful equipment in the room for our patrons.

The Assistive Technology Center is accessed from the concourse in the Main Library from either the Beaumont Tower entrance to the North, or from the Red Cedar entrance to the South of the room.

NORTH  Station A. Public access workstation - Selected Resource Items Only. Station B. Open work station. Perkins brailler (1 of 2) is on this table. Ethernet access avaible at this station for laptop users with registered on the campus network. Station C. This workstation provides access to Microsoft Office 2003, Kurzweil 3000 scanning software, Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred and uses Jaws for Windows to provide patrons with access to screen reading functions for the whole system. Station D. This workstation provides access to Microsoft Office 2003, Kurzweil 3000 scanning software, Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred and uses Jaws for Windows to provide patrons with access to screen reading functions for the whole system. This system is also connected to a scanner to automatically feed documents into the system. Station E. The SARA reading system is available for both campus and community users who need to have documents read to them. Scanned documents can be saved to CD for later playback on systems that support the Arkenstone file format for reading machines. Station F. Clear Vue Enlarger. This workstation is used to increase the viewable image of books, documents and objects placed on the scanning tray. Images can be viewed normally or with options selected from the front mounted controls on the unit. All images are displayed on an adjacent monitor. Storage cabinet - locked. The other Perkins brailler (2 of 2) is in a case on top of this cabinet.
